Preferred hosting location of the OC View
Install the OC View on-premises. The OC View application will be installed in your own environment, and all inventoried data will be accessed on-premises via a web browser.
Access the OC View over the Octopus Cloud. You will be able to access all your inventoried data in the Octopus Cloud via a web browser.
Preferred installation approach of the OC Scanner
The one scanner approach. In this approach, only one scanner is used to automatically collect all SPLA relevant data in the different domains / networks. This option makes sense if you manage all your servers under an AD domain. You can also choose this approach if you have several AD domains, but keep in mind that you may need to make port and firewall settings. Also, with the one scanner variant in multi-domain scans, configuration efforts will be incurred when reading out Exchange, SQL and other user licenses. Often, these configuration efforts can be reduced by adding the scanner server to the Trusted Host list.
The multiple scanners approach: In this approach, several scanners are used to automatically collect all SPLA relevant data in the different domains / networks. This option makes sense if you manage your servers in different AD domains or networks that are separate. A scanner is placed per domain or network. Depending on your infrastructure, you may need to make port and firewall settings. User licenses can basically be read out in this variant without further configuration effort.
